The earrings you didn't know you needed.

Functional. Fun. Friendly. Even…offbeat! Offbeat Earrings is a jewelry brand that makes earrings you can wear and use! Minimalism with a hint of quirkiness was the idea for this identity, reflecting the owner’s personal love of simple graphics as well as the unusual nature of the products.

This logo was commissioned for use by a small business on Etsy.

Initial Sketches

Several ideas were explored for this logo. We narrowed it down to three and chose the final design primarily based on its’ superior readability to the others. We also liked the idea that the logo’s shape imitated a question mark.

To further reflect the products, we decided to make the logo’s icon malleable and make multiple versions with different items hanging off of the “ear.”

The following advertising designs were made as a model the shop owner could use going forward. The examples span from social media to billboards so as to cover multiple possible avenues the owner may want to utilize in the future.

Social Media Carousel

Social media is vital in the modern world of online business. Utilizing “carousel” post format is a modern, visually dynamic method of presentation. Try scrolling through!

Banners

While designing the brand’s social media presence, I decided to look at the different ratios of banners and the locations of profile pictures. The client was planning on using Facebook and Etsy to promote her business and needed banners for both mobile and desktop formats. So, I mapped out how the profile pictures and banners were positioned relative to one another, so I knew where to position the information in the frames.

The photo belongs to the Offbeat Earrings shop owner. The color of the background was edited in by me. I also moved around elements as needed to achieve the desired composition, and added in the white version of the primary logo. We decided there needed to be two to suit various site uses. Banner 1 fit most screen sizes, but not all. So Banner 2 was born.
